Local compost producer shields regional farmers from fertiliser price shock
NuGrow freezes prices for affected growers as global supply disruption bites Queensland agriculture.
As global fertiliser markets face mounting disruption and input costs surge across Queensland’s agricultural sector, Queensland-based organics recycler and soil products manufacturer NuGrow has moved to protect regional farmers — announcing it will not pass on compost price increases due to fuel and hydrocarbon-based material supply shocks to growers already under pressure.
NuGrow is Queensland’s largest organics recycling and soil rejuvenation supplier, operating multiple sites across Queensland, providing certified compost and soil improvement products.
The company has confirmed it will freeze existing supply pricing for farming businesses that are unable to source conventional fertiliser.
“Our products go into the ground that help feed Queensland,” said Jacob Wilson, Executive General Manager of NuGrow. “When our farming customers are facing fertiliser shortages and cost pressures that threaten their crop viability, holding the line on price is simply the right thing to do. We are not a multinational commodity trader; we are a Queensland business that has been part of the agricultural supply chain for years, and we intend to stay that way.”
A structured support initiative
To ensure the support reaches those most in need, NuGrow is establishing a dedicated online application portal through which affected agricultural businesses can register their interest.
“We want to make sure our support is getting to the growers who genuinely need it most,” Jacob continued. “The portal gives us an opportunity to triage supply and make sure we’re not running out of capacity to help those in the most critical situations.”
Details of the portal, including eligibility criteria and the application process, will be published at [www.nugrow.com.au/grower-support] from 23rd April 2026.
Why local organics matter more than ever
NuGrow’s products are manufactured domestically, from local organic inputs, with supply chains that are not exposed to geopolitical pressures currently affecting global fertiliser markets. Compost products also assist with soil water retention, which is also an important factor given Australia’s climate.
“This situation is a reminder that regional food security depends on having resilient, local input supply chains,” Jacob said. “Compost isn’t a substitute for every fertiliser application, but for many soil improvement, conditioning and carbon-building applications, it is a high-quality, locally available, and right now, more price-stable alternative.”
