Ipswich council approves Stage 2 of NuGrow’s In Vessel Enclosed System, the largest organics recycling investment in Ipswich
NuGrow’s second stage of the In Vessel Enclosed System (IVES) has been approved by Ipswich City Council following a full council vote, clearing the way for construction of Stage 2 of the company’s organics recycling expansion.
NuGrow recently waived its appeal rights to the decision notice to ensure that any delays within its control were removed.
In a further positive step, Ipswich City Council has discontinued its matter against NuGrow in the Planning and Environment Court, clearing another obstacle to the project moving forward.
Stage 2 follows the $29 million Stage 1 In-Vessel System, which is nearing completion. More than $21 million of that Stage 1 investment is going to small, family-owned and South East Queensland businesses.
Together, the two stages represent the largest investment in organics waste recycling ever made in Ipswich.
NuGrow Executive General Manager Jacob Wilson said the company had reached out directly to the five submitters who made submissions during the approval process.
“I have personally written to the five submitters for this development and have received a group reply. We have asked to meet with them to discuss their submissions and await their replies,” Mr Wilson said.
Submitters retain the right to appeal the decision. Mr Wilson said the timing of Stage 2 was now largely in their hands.
“We respect that right. But an appeal would only delay the start of the Enclosed System, and we are ready to start the building process.”
“This is the largest investment in organics recycling Ipswich has seen. It demonstrates what our tremendous team has achieved, in all the project’s complexity, despite the significant headwinds we have encountered.”
“This project has not been immune to global shocks from the conflict in the Middle East. Our team continues to work tirelessly to combat all headwinds both abroad and domestic to keep investing in Ipswich,” he said.
